Latino News Network Joins The Fulcrum in 2026 Summer Journalism Fellowship

Latino News Network

The Latino News Network (LNN), a longtime collaborator in strengthening community‑centered journalism, is once again a participating partner in the Fulcrum Fellowship program. LNN is committed to nurturing the next generation of journalists—particularly those who bring lived experience, cultural competency, and a deep understanding of underrepresented communities.

The Fulcrum has opened applications for its 2026 Summer Journalism Fellowship, a 10‑week training program for emerging journalists committed to solutions‑focused reporting and nuanced storytelling. The fellowship, which runs from June 8 through August 14, 2026, is part of The Fulcrum’s broader NextGen initiative, an effort to expand opportunities for young reporters across the country. Fellows receive training in reporting techniques that emphasize evidence‑based responses to social challenges, as well as mentorship from newsroom leaders.

LNN’s Publisher and Fulcrum’s Executive Editor, Hugo Balta—underscored the importance of the program, noting that the fellowship “provides the training and mentorship [young journalists] need — and reinforces that journalism should empower communities, not just report on them”.

In a move to broaden opportunities for emerging journalists, the Hortencia Zavala Foundation has teamed up with The Fulcrum to launch two fellowship cohorts, scheduled for the summer and fall.

As a participating partner, LNN helps support fellows through mentorship, editorial collaboration, and opportunities to publish work that centers Latino voices and perspectives.

Applications for the 2026 cohort are open until February 27, 2026. Prospective fellows must submit a résumé, work samples, and a cover letter outlining their interest in solutions‑focused reporting. For more information on how to apply, click HERE.

“For LNN, the fellowship represents more than a training opportunity—it is an investment in the future of journalism and a continuation of its commitment to elevating diverse storytellers who can help reshape the media landscape,” said Balta.
