As Election Day approaches, your social media feeds might be full of information about the candidates, questions on the ballot in November, and how elections work here in Rhode Island and across the nation. Unfortunately, we can\u2019t always trust everything we see online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leading up to and immediately following the 2020 presidential election, we saw unprecedented levels of mis- and disinformation designed to erode voters\u2019 trust in our
country\u2019s election processes. That rhetoric has continued as we approach this year\u2019s election, and we continue to see false claims negatively influence the public\u2019s
understanding of how our elections work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is unacceptable. The truth of the matter is that our elections are likely more secure\u2013 and more closely scrutinized \u2013 than they\u2019ve ever been. The RI Department of State<\/a> is working continuously with the federal, state, and local agencies that secure and administer our elections, ensuring we are prepared for the weeks ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As citizens, voting is one of the most direct ways we can tell our government what issues matter most to us. It\u2019s an important way to make our voices heard. As Secretary
of State, it\u2019s my job to ensure that voters have the information they need to cast an informed vote, and that all Rhode Islanders feel confident in our elections processes.
I\u2019m proud to join the National Association of Secretaries of State in #TrustedInfo2024, an initiative to encourage voters to get their information from election officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On our website, vote.ri.gov<\/a>, you can access the Voter Information Handbook, which contains information on the statewide referenda questions, as well as a sample ballot
specific to your community. Our office is here to help, but so is your own community. Contact your city or town\u2019s board of canvassers \u2013 your neighbors who administer
elections \u2013 to get local assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rhode Islanders can have confidence in our elections. And if they have questions, they should ask an election official. Together, we can ensure every eligible Rhode Islander
has the information they need to cast their ballot on or before November 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
