{"id":5061601,"date":"2025-04-07T10:54:38","date_gmt":"2025-04-07T14:54:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/malatinonews.com\/?p=5061601"},"modified":"2025-04-07T10:54:38","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T14:54:38","slug":"umass-harvard-student-visas-revoked-in-new-stage-of-trump-immigration-crackdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/latinonewsnetwork.com\/maln\/2025\/04\/07\/umass-harvard-student-visas-revoked-in-new-stage-of-trump-immigration-crackdown\/","title":{"rendered":"UMass, Harvard student visas revoked in \u2018new stage\u2019 of Trump immigration crackdown"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seventeen current and former international students from Harvard, UMass Boston and UMass Amherst had their visas revoked amid the Trump administration\u2019s ongoing push to deport international students, according to announcements from the universities\u2019 leadership over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Experts say these latest revocations \u2014 for reasons that do not appear connected to pro-Palestinian activism \u2014 represent a new breakdown in the relationship between the government and higher-ed institutions,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harvard officials learned of the revocations of three students and two former students \u201cduring a routine records review\u201d within the past three days, according to an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hio.harvard.edu\/news\/important-update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announcement<\/a>&nbsp;published Sunday by the school\u2019s International Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UMass Boston Chancellor Marcelo Su\u00e1rez-Orozco wrote in an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/message\/o8vz7n\/0lyzzme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">email<\/a>&nbsp;Saturday that immigration officials had not notified their schools, either. The Office of Global Programs only discovered that the visas of two UMass Boston students and five others, including recent graduates in training programs, had been revoked after checking the Immigration and Customs Enforcement database.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UMass Amherst officials found out the same way, according to a statement sent to GBH News Sunday from a school spokesperson. \u201cThe university has no reason to believe these revocations are connected to campus activism,\u201d the spokesperson said. \u201cTo protect the privacy of the students, we are not sharing specifics about their situations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a
