Chicago native Mireya Sald\u00faa found her most recent passion in writing with her first book, \u201cFun Day With Misa.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the story of my kids\u2019 dog,\u201d Sald\u00faa said. \u201cI don\u2019t have grandkids, so I treat her [Misa] like one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Misa, the book\u2019s leading dog, is half mini Australian Shepard and weighs four pounds. The story centers on animated versions of Sald\u00faa\u2019s family spending an eventful day around Misa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sald\u00faa, who was previously a human resources consultant, launched her book in Chicago at the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Expo at Navy Pier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before her October 9 visit, Sald\u00faa first visited her alma mater to read the book to kids attending the Saint Xavier University\u2019s Warde Academic Center. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to featuring hand-drawn illustrations, the book is bilingual. It\u2019s also known as \u201cUn dia divertido con Misa,\u201d in Spanish and has parallel translation in either language. This was a key selling point which drew many customers to Sald\u00faa\u2019s expo stand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
One customer, Joel Velazco, who has three kids ranging in age from 7 to 16, said he bought the book to help his kids practice their Spanish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey only say \u2018No sabo,\u2019 and that\u2019s all they know,\u201d Velazco said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Velazco emphasized the importance of knowing Spanish for the professional sphere, saying that the ability to communicate with Spanish-speakers was critical for his role at BMO Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After this chapter, Sald\u00faa plans on writing seven more books, each exploring a different adventure with Misa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis particular story ends with Misa dreaming about elephants,\u201d said Sald\u00faa. \u201cWe\u2019ll see what happens next.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Saldua\u2019s first book is available now on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. After the expo, Sald\u00faa has plans to show off the book at other public events in Chicago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI hope audiences love it,\u201d Sald\u00faa said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
