In the U.S.,&nbsp;nearly two-thirds of low-income women&nbsp;couldn\u2019t afford tampons or pads in 2018. Period poverty particularly impacts low income and unhoused communities, as well as people in Black and Brown communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Join Illinois Latino News and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbez.org\/events\/community-conversation-what-is-period-poverty\/216\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WBEZ<\/a> for a free virtual conversation defining period poverty and exploring its covert effects on people across Chicago and around the world. During the program, we\u2019ll hear from panelists like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/ida-melbye-60345325\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ida Melbye<\/a>, the executive director of the Period Collective, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/maternalchild.uic.edu\/profiles\/suleman-abigail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Abigail Suleman<\/a>, co-founder of the Blood Buds UIC initiative, plus more.
