As she (naturally) goes into panic mode, her often-absent mother Estella unexpectedly drops into town. Together, can they resolve this nightmare within several hours?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A humorous collage of chaos and Latin culture, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hartfordstage.org\/laughs-in-spanish\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Laughs in Spanish<\/a>,\u201d premieres on March 14 at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hartfordstage.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hartford Stage<\/a> and runs through March 30, 2025.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One-half art-heist and the other being a mother-daughter story, the performance offers \u201ca snapshot of Cuban and Colombian American life,\u201d while being \u201cdeeply, deeply funny,\u201d shared Artistic Director Melia Bensussen. The play is written by Jewish-Colombian playwright Alexis Scheer and first premiered in 2023.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cReally, it\u2019s a story of what does it means to be a Latina and an artist trying to forge your way in the world, and what is the cost of being a mother and a passionate Latina artist who\u2019s dedicated to being, really, at the top of her field\u2026and forging a path that no one has forged before,\u201d commented Director Lisa Portes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Scene and Heard \u2022 Laughs in Spanish at Hartford Stage\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nNPSMkHHC7Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cast includes Stephanie Machado as Mariana, Maggie Bofill as Estella, Mar\u00eda Victoria Mart\u00ednez as Carolina, Olivia Hebert as Jenny, and Luis Vega as Juan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The creative team also includes Brian Sidney Bembridge on scenic design, Harry Nadal on costume design, Sherrice Mojgani on lighting design, Daniela Hart \/ UptownWorks on sound design, Intimacy Coordinator Kelsey Rainwater, Dialect and Voice Coach Cynthia Santos DeCure, Stage manager Theresa Stark, Casting Director Gama Valle, and Assistant Stage Manager Christina M.
