On this episode of LNN Spotlight, Reporter\/Editor Bel\u00e9n Dumont<\/a> speaks with Hispanic Health Council Policy Advocacy Manager Megan Scharrer on best practices to connect with potential Hispanic\/Latino voters and efforts to civically engage local Hispanic\/Latino communities year-round. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cResearch has shown that Latinos who are eligible to vote are not voting because of lack of civic education\u2026and barriers to go out to vote,\u201d said Scharrer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the 2020 presidential election, about 50% of Hartford\u2019s eligible voters cast their ballot \u2014compared to the state average of 80%. During the 2022 state election, around 26% Hartford residents voted, with the state average being 58%. As Election Day quickly approaches, Scharrer shares about the Hispanic Health Council\u2019s efforts to civically engage residents across Hartford. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
