\nWhile most teenagers spend their summer relaxing, spending time with their friends, or maybe working a summer job, 15 year-old Adriana Diaz is currently\u00a0competing at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
\nDiaz\u00a0made her Olympic debut today with a win over <\/span><\/a>six-time Olympian, Nigeria\u2019s Olofunke Oshonaike, 11-7, 7-11, 4-11, 11-7, 11-5 and 11-2. Not only is she one of\u00a0the youngest table tennis players at the Rio Olympics,\u00a0Diaz is\u00a0one of the\u00a0youngest in Olympic history;\u00a0Sally Yee<\/span><\/a> from Fiji is younger than her by about\u00a06 months.
\nAlready a promising table tennis athlete\u00a0before reaching the Olympic stage,\u00a0Diaz was\u00a0labeled a prodigy in 2015. The Puerto Rican native has been playing table tennis since she was 4 years old, according to Indice PR<\/span><\/a>, and most recently won\u00a0a bronze medal at the 2015 Pan American Games and two gold, one silver, and one bronze at the 2014 Central American Games.
\nIn 2015, she also won singles gold in Croatia at the Croatia Junior & Cadet Open (U-15). By adding this victory to a previous win from\u00a0only days before, Diaz became the first Latin American player to win both U-15 and U-18 in a ITTF approved tournament, El Nuevo Dia reports. <\/span><\/a>That same year, Diaz was the highest ranked <\/span><\/a>Latin American table tennis player according to the International Federation at just 14 years old.
\nWith many years of playing ahead of her, and potential Olympic appearances in the future, Diaz is showing that hard work and dedication pay off at any age.
