{"id":5084798,"date":"2016-11-02T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-11-02T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ctlatinonews.com\/educators-from-around-the-state-gather-to-better-support-undocumented-students\/"},"modified":"2016-11-02T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-11-02T04:00:00","slug":"educators-from-around-the-state-gather-to-better-support-undocumented-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/latinonewsnetwork.com\/ctln\/2016\/11\/02\/educators-from-around-the-state-gather-to-better-support-undocumented-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Educators From Around the State Gather to Better Support Undocumented Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Special to CTLatinoNews.com<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: black;font-family: 'Cambria','serif';font-size: 11pt\">This Friday, Nov 4th , CT Students for a Dream (C4D) will host its third annual Educator conference on Undocumented Students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Times New Roman\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: black;font-family: 'Cambria','serif';font-size: 11pt\">WHAT: Moving from Knowledge to Action: An Educator Conf. on Undocumented Students<br \/>\nWHEN: Friday, November 4th 8:00am-3:30pm<br \/>\nWHERE: Wesleyan University , 45 Wyllys Avenue, Middletown, CT<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: black;font-family: 'Cambria','serif';font-size: 11pt\">This conference will bring together educators (high school teachers, counselors, high school staff, parent liaisons, community organization staff, future educators, and many others) from around the state to talk about how educators can better support and advocate for undocumented students, share best practices, build networks, and discuss how to collectively advocate with undocumented students.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"margin: 0px;color: black;font-family: 'Cambria','serif';font-size: 11pt\">Over 150 Educators from around the state\u2019s colleges, high schools, middle schools, social service and state agencies are expected to attend the conference, along with over 20 volunteers and undocumented youth. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"margin: 0px;color: black;font-family: 'Cambria','serif';font-size: 11pt\">&#8220;Moving from Knowledge to Action: An Educator Conf. on Undocumented Students&#8221; is being generously sponsored by Wesleyan University, United We Dream, The Community Foundation of Greater New Haven and the New Haven Promise.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"margin: 0px;color: black;font-family: 'Cambria','serif';font-size: 11pt\">Undocumented students in Connecticut face a broad range of challenges. Only 5-10% of undocumented students go on to attend college after high school. However, there are both large and small steps that educators, schools, districts, and the state can take to make the educational climate better for undocumented students.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Times New Roman\">\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: black;font-family: 'Cambria','serif';font-size: 11pt\">Connecticut Students for a Dream is a
