She&#8217;s also the first Hispanic woman to be the council president.<br \/>\n<!-- text -->Nieves easily won the chair&#8217;s seat, getting 15 of a possible 20 votes for council president; only a simple majority of the City Council, or 11 votes, was needed. Others in the running were Denese Taylor-Moye (131st) and AmyMarie Vizzo-Paniccia (134th) who received two votes each .
