\nOn Sunday\u2019s \u201cMeet The Press\u201d, the veteran news anchor said, \u201cYou know, they (Hispanics) ought not to be just codified in their communities but make sure that all their kids are learning to speak English, and that they feel comfortable in the communities.\u201d
\nBrokaw\u2019s original apology on Twitter was chastised for not being sincere. A spokesperson for NBC said,\u00a0\u201cTom’s comments were inaccurate and inappropriate and we’re glad he apologized.\u201d
\nHispanic\/Latino organizations like the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) reprehend Brokaw\u2019s comments for being inaccurate and reinforcing xenophobic stereotypes.
