Toro, president of Central Connecticut State\nUniversity \u2014 the first woman and Latino to lead the university. She assumed the\nleadership role at CCSU in 2017, becoming the university\u2019s 13<sup>th<\/sup>\npresident.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube aligncenter wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"ZULMA R. TORO &#8211; Central Connecticut State University&#8217;s 13th President <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Born\nand raised in Puerto Rico, Toro graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in\n1982 with a degree in industrial engineering. She went on to earn a master\u2019s\ndegree from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute\nof Technology. <\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prior\nto becoming president of CCSU, Toro was executive vice chancellor and provost\nof the University of Arkansas, Little Rock. Previously, she held leadership\npositions with Wichita State University, the University of New Haven and the\nUniversity of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nother inductees are:<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Rabbi\nPhilip Lazowski, philanthropist, spiritual leader and Holocaust survivor<\/li><li>Dr.\nHenry c. Lee, internationally renowned forensic scientist<\/li><li>Lucian\nPawlak, former Mayor of New Britain and community leader<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p> \u201cTheir noteworthy contributions serve to inspire and encourage future generations to excel.\u201d <\/p><cite> Andre Blaszczynski,  Co-chair of the IHHF Planning Committee <\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe IHHF Class of 2019 is a diverse group of remarkable individuals who embody the kind of perseverance, scholarship, and achievement that have made our world a better place,\u201d said Andre Blaszczynski, long-time Tunxis Community College Professor of Economics, co-chair of the IHHF Planning Committee and President of the Polish American Foundation of Connecticut. <\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lt.\nGov. Susan Bysiewicz will give the keynote address. The evening will also\ninclude performances reflecting the Puerto Rican, Jewish, Polish and Chinese\nheritages of the inductees.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 7<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Induction Ceremony and Gala will be held on Sept. 26 at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $95 per person.
