As winter comes to the east coast and the holidays are here again, it is more important than ever to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines. Instead of preparing for a large family gathering, Connecticut residents are asked to reduce gatherings and find creative ways to connect.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ct.gov\/Coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Public Health<\/a> reported earlier this week that the number of positive cases rose to 6.74 percent. According to their website, the increase in the number of cases reflects more than 1,500 new cases. As of this week, Connecticut has had 84,741 positive cases and 4,716 deaths from the novel coronavirus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week CTLN Opinion+ had a special guest, Department of public health Commissioner Dr. Deidre Gifford, who became the commissioner in the middle of the pandemic, in May. She had experience in dealing with healthcare systems as she previously worked in Medicaid.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gifford did not shy away from discussing the effects of racism on public health since she is the commissioner of the public health system of a state with a large economic and racial divide. And whose Latino community and other people of color have been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We asked the commissioner for<a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ct.gov\/Coronavirus\/Covid-19-Knowledge-Base\/Holiday-Guidance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> guidelines<\/a> for the upcoming holiday season. Which include reducing traveling to areas with high concentration of Covid-19 cases and increasing wearing of masks.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n<p
